Using the camera serial number to find the correct firmware.
April 29, 2025
This guide will help you determine the model camera you have. This information will help you select and load the correct firmware onto your camera.
****
The Firmware for both the G2 and G3 (Second and Third Generation) cameras can be found HERE .
If you are still unsure of what file to use after reading this guide, please contact Support.
PTZOptics Firmware can only be used with PTZOptics Hardware.
Loading the wrong firmware onto a camera will permanently damage it.
Additionally, the G3 cameras have a Firmware Check built into their web interface.
The System Settings page has a "Check Firmware Version" button. If your camera is connected to a network with Internet access, clicking this button will contact our Firmware Server and check for new firmware (it will also prompt you to download the new file).
Finding the Serial Number of your Camera:
The serial number of a camera can be found in multiple ways:
- Printed on the label located on the base of the camera and the box it came in. (this label also lists the model)
- With the IR Remote, press [*] > [#] > [8]. This will display camera info (including the SN) over the camera's video feed. (if your camera is on very old firmware, this command may not be supported)
- In the Web Interface, G2 cameras will list the serial number on the Information page, and G3 cameras will list it on the Device Info page.
Serial Number format for different Generation cameras:
G2 Camera Serial Number Format:
The serial number will begin with two letters. The first letter indicates the model.
Note: Some of our older G2 cameras will have the model of the camera in the serial number.
- For example, a camera with the serial number 20XSDIGYG216000056 would be a 20X-SDI-GY-G2 produced in 2016. For cameras that have this SN format, it would be best to contact support so we can make sure you use the correct firmware.
G3 Camera Serial Number Format:
The serial number will begin with a series of three digits.
The first two digits will always be a letter followed by a number (ex: a1). The third digit will be a letter.
The first two digits indicate the model.
The charts below display the various letter/number combinations corresponding to the model camera. The third column indicates the name of the link you should select on the Firmware files page to download the appropriate firmware file.
