Important Information About Firmware Compatibility
While updating the firmware for PTZOptics cameras isn't overly complicated, it's important to follow the correct process based on your camera's serial number.
-
Serial Number Format:
-
If your serial number starts with two letters (e.g.,
FF,FE), you can continue using [this guide] . (account creation required) -
If your serial number starts with the model number (e.g.,
20XSDIGYG2,12XUSBWHG2), your camera may be older. Please contact us to confirm the correct firmware.
-
Step 1: Identify the Required Firmware
-
Locate your camera's full serial number .
-
Refer to this [ firmware article] to determine the correct firmware file for your camera.
-
You will need:
-
The Upgrade tool (V2.8 for Windows or V2.7 for Mac)
-
The firmware file specific to your camera model
-
Example: A 20X SDI camera would use a specific firmware file based on the serial number.
Step 2: Download and Extract Files
(windows)
-
Download the required tools and firmware files.
-
Open your Downloads folder.
-
Right-click on each ZIP folder and choose “Extract All…” , keeping the default extraction location (Downloads folder).
-
In the extracted " Windows Upgrade Tools v2.8C " folder, right-click
Upgrade.exeand choose “Run as administrator.”
(Mac)
-
Download the required tools and firmware files.
-
Look for the " Mac Upgrade Tool v2.7C ".
-
Go to the download folder and open the DMG file. Then, open the upgrade application. This may be blocked the first time you open the application. If so, follow the steps in [this article] to "open the Mac tool."
Step 3: Launch Upgrade Tool
-
The Upgrade 2.8 tool will open. (V2.8 for Windows or V2.7 for Mac)
-
If your camera is already on a valid IP address:
-
Navigate to the Upgrade tab.
-
Enter your camera’s IP address .
-
Change the dropdown in the upper-left corner to “MTD” .
-
Click Query to populate your camera’s current firmware info.
-
-
if your camera does not have a valid IP address on your subnet, please refer to [ this article ]
Step 4: Load Firmware File
-
Click the Open button.
-
Navigate to the folder where you extracted the firmware (likely in Downloads).
-
Select the appropriate firmware file. This should be the ".img" file found in the bundle folder.
You should now see the firmware information populated in the tool interface.
Step 5: Begin the Firmware Upgrade
-
Confirm you’ve selected the correct firmware file.
-
Click Upgrade .
-
The status bar will progress as follows:
-
10% → 47% → 70% → 85%
-
The camera will stay on 85% for a few minutes.
-
The camera will reboot at 85% and proceed to 98%
-
One final reboot will complete the process at 100% with a message: “Upgrade complete”
-
The camera will reboot on its own. DO NOT reboot or unplug it until you get the "Upgrade Complete" message unless told to do so by support.
